It can be nerve-wracking to explore different school environments in an effort to pick the “perfect” place for your child to learn and thrive.  We were a little anxious about making the “right” decision.  At the same time, we felt lucky to have so many wonderful schools in Cincinnati to choose from.

We feel the early childhood years set the stage for a lifelong love of learning.  The children at Mercy Montessori take great pride in their work and seem genuinely excited to be at school.  When we visited, we didn’t see a single student who seemed bored or disengaged.  We attribute this to the experience of the teachers and their true interest in promoting the development and growth of each child.

The Mercy staff members demonstrate great care and concern for students and their families, and that’s why we trust them to help raise and educate our children.  Every school strives to provide a strong academic curriculum, and Mercy Montessori is no exception.  What we think is different about Mercy is its warm, embracing community—a community which values diversity and fosters spiritual, physical and emotional growth, along with a love of learning and love of God.

Years ago when my first child was a newborn, a family of four children in our neighborhood came by with a baby gift.   I didn't know the children well but as they stood hopefully on my doorstep, I thought, "Oh, no! The last thing I need is visiting children”.  To my delight, they were wonderfully courteous and surprisingly conversant.   I was just amazed.  "I want to get to know the mother of these children," I thought, "because I want to learn how to raise my child to be just like them."  Over the next few months I asked that mother the secret to raising such wonderful kids.

Her answer: "I've got two words for you -- Mercy Montessori."

So, my husband and I went on a Mercy school tour, where the confident, well-spoken fourth-grader who served as our tour guide confirmed that my neighbors weren't just a fluke -- they were reflective of the benefits of a Mercy education! I'm extremely proud to say that I now have a Mercy Montessori school tour guide in the family.  Not only has Mercy Montessori done a fantastic job educating my children thus far, the school also has done a great job educating my husband and me, making us better parents!

Without a doubt, one of the most significant moments in my life was when my parents enrolled me in a faith-based Montessori education at Mercy Montessori Center. Obviously, at that age I was not even vaguely aware of how important that decision was for me.

Today though, the impact on my life is evident.

I graduated from Mercy in 1978, having attended school through the sixth grade (at that time, Mercy had no junior high). It was at Mercy that I developed learning skills, respect of others, love of God and the value of service to others. Those attributes continue to serve me well today.

When it came time to evaluate schools for our children, I was open to exploring other educational opportunities. My wife was not very familiar with Montessori teaching methods and as a high school teacher in a traditional environment, she was skeptical about the benefits of a Montessori education. Most of these concerns were washed away with her first visit to the school. Today, neither of us can imagine sending our four children anywhere else.
