Junior High students at Mercy Montessori recently returned from a class trip to St. Augustine, Florida via Tennessee and Georgia. Mercy’s 7th and 8th grade student government researched possible class trip sites, presented their recommendations to classmates and voted as a group on their final trip destination. Students independently planned the majority of their travel details, including lodging and points of interest; they are producing a class DVD documenting their journey. The organization of their class trip is a concrete example of the research skills, independence and leadership fostered by the Montessori method of education.
