Religious Education: First Quarter Update K-3
What a wonderful first quarter we have had in our K-3 Religion classes! Each group began the year with our cornerstone presentation of the Good Shepherd, which explores the love that Jesus has for each of us, just as a shepherd loves his own sheep, and would lay down his life for his sheep. We’ve shared in the Old Testament story of Noah’s Ark to understand that God has a covenant with His people. We have also been exploring the liturgical calendar, gaining an understanding of Ordinary Time, Advent and Lent, Christmas and Easter, and Pentecost -all seasons of our Church year. Mercy Day led us to learn more about the life of Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters or Mercy. Pope Francis’ visit to the United States gave us the opportunity to learn more about his hopes for peace, support of families, and help for the poor. Many groups have had a visit to Mercy’s own chapel, for a hands-on exploration of the articles of the altar, the priest’s vestments, and a very special peek into the tabernacle, where the Body of Christ is present in a special way.
